Started the day installing a pump
I needed to get the pump installed in the new well today. But first I had to find all my tools and I just couldn’t find my other pipe wrench. I looked and looked. About the third time around looking for it where I thought it should be, I finally found it, so I could begin. I think it took about an hour to get my tools together and another hour to install the pump in the well.
Here’s the pump just after I got started with the project.
That project went well, mostly, and I got her done. I did have a bit of a problem with the plastic pipe getting cross treaded once, but I was patient and got things fixed up right. I needed a good break after that. I was thinking of going down for a late afternoon kayak at Jenner and was on the water just after three PM and headed on up the river. I headed to Willow Creek, about two miles up the river.
There was high fog and it was a bit overcast, but the wind was down. This is what it looked like as I paddled along.
I went by this cow as it watched me. Looks nice and fat, it likely just had a drink of water.
Willow creek
This is what Willow Creek looks like just after I entered it.
I paddled under this bridge that crossed the creek.
Mud swallow nests
There’s a bunch of swallow nests under the bridge, but I don’t think the swallows have arrived yet as there didn’t seem to be any birds using these nests.
I paddled all the way into the creek about a quarter mile and sat and enjoyed the area for about an hour, then started back out.
Great blue heron
I jumped this great blue heron on the way out.
The heron was fishing as I watched.
Flat water
It was about seven PM as I paddled back down the river. The wind had dyed down and the water was nice and flat now, just the way I like it.
Fishing cormorants
Up ahead, I could see a lot of splashing. When I got close enough to see what was going on, I found some cormorants fishing.
This pair of mallard ducks was resting on a redwood log, with the town of Jenner in the background.
Just above Penny Island I passed by these cormorants resting on a redwood log.
Lots of little geese
I found these geese with the little ones cruising down the side of Penny Island.
And these little guys even younger than the other ones above.
I headed on in for the day and went on home. Nice day kayaking Jenner.
