I needed some hinges
I ran out of hinges for my panels yesterday so I needed to go get some more. As long as I had to go get hinges, I might as well get some chicken wire too, but how much?
I need more hinges because I decided more gates would be nice. They are more trouble to build, but the more I build the handier things will be.
Used chicken wire
My brother Tom said he had some used chicken wire I could have, but I didn’t know what size and how much he had, so I walked over to his garden to see what he had.
I walked by these bees. The boxes seem to be multiplying. They didn’t bother me.
Tom with the wire
I was going to cross the creek on this log, but when I put my foot on it, it slipped off, so I started to walk around it when I ran into Tom with the used wire he was giving me so I hopped on his golf cart and we drove back to my house.
Used wire
He had these two rolls of five foot stuff which would work good on the top panels.
Shopping for wire
So I drove over to the shopping area and drove into this stores fence material area here.
I picked up some wire and some hinges too and a few other things.
Here’s all the wire I have, about five hundred dollars worth of the new stuff.
Constructing a 20 foot panel
I started right away working on a 20 foot panel with I had to cut and weld together.
Putting wire to the panel
Once I had the panel welded up, I started cutting wire for the panel. I’m using some 1×2 inch welded wire for the bottom foot and 1 inch x 6 foot chicken wire to finish it up to the top.
Here I’m cutting the wire to length.
Hog nose clips
I used hog nose clips to fasten most of the wire to the rebar panel.
Finished panel
Eventually I had all the wire in place which looked like this.
I left about six inches of wire on the bottom that I needed to bend at 90 degrees which I will eventually bury in the ground.
I used a 2×4 to and bent the wire around it as a guide.
Panel in place
Once the 20 foot panel was complete I dragged it over to the new garden area and propped it up here for now until I get the other pieces built.
I checked on the grape plant I moved yesterday and it seems to be doing real good.
It was nice out just before dark so I sat around the yard chair hopping unit it got dark.
And that was my day.
Another productive day, Bob. Glad the weather is co-operating so you can get your fence built.
